 What does A2 mean?

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is a recommendation to compare the language aquisition and language skills of learners throughout all European languages. There are 6 levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) describing what learners are able to do and speak after having completed the respective level. Completing A2 implies:

  • Hearing
I can understand very basic information. I am able to understand the substance of short, clear and simple messages and announcements.
  • Reading
I can find information in simple texts (flyers, menus, timetables etc.) and I am able to understand simple personal letters.
  • Speaking
I can communicate within simple everyday situations. I am able to describe my personal life and the business I am in.
  • Writing
I can write down short, simple notes and messages. I am able to write a personal letter, e.g. to thank somebody.
